Every great tea begins with a pair of experienced hands.
Before tea reaches your cup, before it is carefully packed and shipped around the world, its journey begins high in the mountains of Pu’er.
It begins with the people.
Long before sunrise, tea farmers prepare for a day in the forest. Carrying traditional woven bamboo baskets on their backs, they walk mountain paths that have connected villages to ancient tea trees for generations.
For many families, this is not simply a job.
It is a way of life.
A tradition passed down through generations
Many of the tea farmers we work with belong to Yunnan’s ethnic minority communities.
Their knowledge is not learned from books.
Children grow up watching their parents and grandparents recognise the best tea trees, understand the changing seasons, and know exactly when the first spring buds are ready to be picked.
This experience has been passed down for centuries.
Harvesting by hand
Unlike large commercial plantations, tea from ancient forests cannot be harvested by machines.
Farmers carefully pick only the youngest buds and tender leaves, ensuring each harvest maintains its quality.
Some ancient trees are so tall that farmers must climb wooden ladders or temporary platforms to reach the freshest leaves.
Every basket represents hours of careful work.
